Viktor Andersson: “It’s great to be among the best”
Independent driver Viktor Andersson of MA:GP was elated after qualifying in seventh place on the streets of Vila Real in his third race weekend of the FIA TCR World Tour.
“It’s my first experience here and the circuit is really cool and it’s great being here with all the fans around the circuit, and it’s a great atmosphere,” Andersson told TouringCarTimes.
“With every lap I learned a lot, we started a bit slow but we built it up and the qualifying was good.
“I was too close to the wall and I had a small touch and ended up seventh in the end, which means that we have good starting positions in both races, P7 and P4, because we know that it’s not so easy to overtake here.”
Despite the characteristics of the Vila Real track, Andersson doesn’t rule improving his position in the races.
“We will see tomorrow, it’s a new day, maybe it will be possible to overtake, but being in the top ten was my goal for the weekend for qualifying, so I’m very happy about that,” said Andersson
The Swede runs a full-time programme in TCR Europe but has joined the European events of the FIA TCR World Tour which he evaluates as an opportunity to improve as a driver.
“Competing against the World Tour drivers is really tough but I like it because we are among the best and that’s how you improve yourself and also as a team,” said the Lynk & Co driver.
“We can see where we want to be, where we need to improve, and we are learning a lot. We are a small team, so we don’t expect to be fighting with the factory teams but being in the top ten is a great feeling.
“But we probably won’t be continuing with the TCR World Tour. It’s been great doing three rounds here in Europe but our focus is TCR Europe. We want to be among the best, so I don’t want to close any doors, But I don’t see it happening.”
