Néstor Girolami: “Anything can happen in the championship”

Hyundai driver Néstor Girolami had a difficult FIA TCR World Tour weekend at Vila Real after missing the qualifying session because of a low pressure fuel system issue.

“In the street circuits, if you don’t have a good qualifying, it’s very difficult to overtake in the race, so everything got complicated when we had the problem with the fuel pump and I couldn’t qualify,” Girolami told TouringCarTimes.

“I started both races from P15 on the grid and in the first one, I had a bit of luck, overtaking and with some drivers who had punctures, so I could finish eighth.

“In the second race I was tenth. It’s not the result we would have wanted but now it’s time to raise our heads and look ahead. We must work hard in the summer to come back strong in Australia.”

Girolami is eighth in the championship standings at mid-point of the season, 105 points behind points leader Yann Ehrlacher.

Despite the gap, he believes there is still a chance of fighting for the crown.

“Well, anything can happen, we have four rounds left, two of which are feature three heats,” said the Argentinian driver.

“Those weekends can be very fruitful, so we have to align ourselves to turn the situation around. The Lynk & Cos are very strong, so we have to work extra to come close to them.”
