Ash Sutton vows to come back fighting on race day

Ash Sutton has vowed to bounce back fighting after enduring a challenging British Touring Car Championship qualifying session at Croft.

Sitting atop the standings going into the weekend, the Alliance Racing driver could only manage a time good enough for 11th on the grid for race one.

The four-time champion comfortably progressed out of Q1 however numerous track limit infringements ultimately cost him the chance of breaking into the Quick Six shootout.

“We’re scratching our heads a little bit,” said Sutton. “We’ve been struggling with pace but then suddenly it came back to us in that second session – which is frustrating as we probably would have got through.

“It was the smallest amount through Turn 5 that we were penalised for but rules are rules. Perhaps I got a bit too greedy going through there.

“Looking ahead to tomorrow we’ll see what the weather is doing and make a decision on tyres. Today could have been better but tomorrow is where it really counts and we’ll come out fighting in all three races.”
