Gabriele Covini heads close BRC 1-2 at Imola

Gabriele Covini beat BRC Racing Hyundai team-mate Alex Ley by just nine thousands of a second to his maiden TCR Italy pole position at Imola.

The duo were well clear of series returnee Cosimo Barberini who was three tenths behind in third place behind the wheel of his Cupra.

Matteo Poloni was fastest of the Audi drivers in fourth place for Gear Works, close to five tenths from pole, while Jacopo Cimenes was fastest of the Honda drivers in fifth.

Reigning champion Nicolas Taylor claimed sixth place on the grid ahead of points leader Nicola Baldan, six and nine tenths from pole respectively.

Denis Babuin rounded off the the top eight for Planet Motorsport (Audi) ahead of the first race of the weekend which starts at 15:40 CEST on Saturday.
