Tom Ingram extends points lead with dominate race two victory
Tom Ingram strengthened his advantage at the top of the British Touring Car Championship standings after charging to a commanding victory in the weekend’s second contest at Knockhill.
Starting from third place on the preferred soft tyre, the EXCELR8 Motorsport driver produced a scintillating opening few laps to fight his way to the front and once there, he cruised to a fourth win of the season.
West Surrey Racing’s Jake Hill and Charles Rainford maintained first and second as the lights went out however it wasn’t long before Ingram was on the move, with the Hyundai i30 driver dispatching Rainford first at the end of lap one exiting the hairpin.
Closing Hill down within a matter of corners, Ingram then made a bold move down the inside of the reigning champion at Clark’s. Hill fought back as the pair ran side-by-side down to the hairpin but with the inside line, Ingram slipped past and then cantered off into the distance.
Race one winner Hill had no time to rest as he soon came under pressure from a host of soft tyre-runners, all while he valiantly battled on the medium compound.
Alliance Racing’s Dan Cammish pulled off a number of strong moves to elevate himself up to second originally but he dropped to third at the chequered flag as his team-mate Ash Sutton charged up the order to limit the damage to his main title rival.
Sutton, along with EXCELR8’s Senna Proctor, endured a challenging opening few laps but once their tyres were up to temperature they were both ones to watch as they fought their way forward.
Proctor ultimately got the better of Hill who ultimately led home two of his three team-mates, Daryl Deleon and Aiden Moffat, to complete the top six.
Tom Chilton and Dan Rowbottom were two other big movers in the race as they muscled their way into the top ten, narrowly ahead of Adam Morgan.
Race 3 is scheduled to begin after 17:00 at Knockhill with Deleon starting from pole position.
