Tom Ingram opens up advantage over Ash Sutton in BTCC points
Tom Ingram was able to extend his advantage at the top of the British Touring Car Championship standings to 17 points following an exhilarating race day at Knockhill.
The EXCELR8 Motorsport driver had arrived at the Scottish holding a XX-point lead over four-time champion Ash Sutton.
After qualifying on the second row of the grid, the 2022 title winner scored a third-place finish in race one before then cruising to a commanding victory in race two. Ingram then ended his day at the Fife-based venue with a battling drive to fourth.
Those results, in addition to the positions of Sutton and team-mate Dan Cammish being swapped in race three following a yellow flag infringement, now means Ingram heads back to Donington Park at the end of the month with a strong grasp on proceedings.
In the BTCC Manufacturer/Constructors Championship, just 11 points is the different between Alliance Racing/Ford and EXCELR8/Hyundai.
Things are even close between the two squads in the BTCC Teams’ Championship, with NAPA Racing UK holding a seven-point advantage over Team VERTU.
Three wins from three races has helped elevate Chris Smiley to the summit of the Independent Drivers’ Championship; and his Restart Racing squad occupy top spot in the Independent Teams’ Championship as well.
Over in the Jack Sears Trophy, just a single point separates Daryl DeLeon from his West Surrey Racing team-mate Charles Rainford in the overall standings.
The BTCC returns to Donington Park – albeit this time on the Grand Prix circuit – in less than two weeks’ time on August 30-31.
