Michele Imberti scores Mugello pole position

Kombat Motorsport driver Michele Imberti (Hyundai) claimed the pole position in the TCR Italy qualifying session at Mugello.

Cosimo Barberini (Cupra) was the first driver to establish a reference lap time ahead of Imberti and Nicola Baldan (Audi).

BRC Racing Team’s Alex Ley (Hyundai) climbed to second place with ten minutes left on the clock, but was still two-tenths behind Barberini. Gabriele Giorgi (Audi) had his first lap time deleted due to a track limits infringement.

Imberti stole the top spot with seven minutes to go, beating Barberini by 0.026 seconds. The final moments of the session saw a lot of action, with the main drivers from the championship improving their lap times.

Imberti claimed the pole position ahead of Barberini and Alex Key (Hyundai). Hyundai driver Gabriele Covini claimed the fourth spot of the grid, albeit half-a-second behind the pole-sitter.

Baldan of Aikoa Racing finished in fifth position, 0.635 seconds off the pace, followed by PMA Motorsport driver Nicolas Taylor and MM Motorsport driver Michal Bartoszuk, nine-tenths behind Imberti.

Matteo Poloni was eighth, with Damiano Reduzzi and Sandro Pelatti completing the top-ten, over a second from the pole time.

The TCR Italy field returns to the track on Saturday afternoon, with Race 1 scheduled for 13:40 CEST.
