Mikel Azcona heads Hyundai 1-2 in style in The Bend qualifying

Mikel Azcona headed BRC Hyundai team-mate Norbert Michelisz in qualifying for the first FIA TCR World Tour race at The Bend in Australia.

The Spaniard lapped the Australian circuit in 1:54.406 to beat his team-mate by a massive 0.7229 seconds.

Points leader Yann Ehrlacher was third fastest for Lynk & Co Cyan Racing, 1.1538 seconds from pole.

Reigning TCR Australia champion Josh Buchan was fourth fastest, 1.2422 seconds from pole, while Thed Björk snatched fifth place, 1.3057 seconds adrift.

Ignacio Montenegro was fastest of the Honda drivers in sixth place ahead of Ma Qing Hua and GOAT Racing team-mate Esteban Guerrieri, who topped the free practice session, in eighth.

Néstor Girolami was ninth fastest for BRC Hyundai ahead of Cupra driver Aurélien Comte and Santiago Urrutia, who is placed third overall.

The first race of the weekend at The Bend starts at 14:10 local time/06:40 CEST.
