Néstor Girolami: “We are still quite behind in the championship”

Néstor Girolami made the most of his reversed-grid front-row start to claim his second win of the 2025 FIA TCR World Tour season, making it a double Hyundai win from the race weekend at The Bend in Australia.

“It was all about the start,” said Girolami.

“I had to take the risk. Esteban (Guerrieri) respected me well and that opened the race for me. I used the first five or six laps to build a gap, then just managed the tyres because it was very demanding. The car felt fantastic this weekend.”

Girolami has moved up to sixth place overall but is still trailing points leader Yann Ehrlacher by 113 points with three race weekends remaining, while team-mate Norbert Michelisz is one place ahead, 98 points from the lead.

“At the beginning of the year, we struggled a lot,” said Girolami.

“Mexico was terrible, Vila Real too. We are still quite behind in the championship, but the main goal now is to take it race by race. Korea is very important for us. Today was much hotter than yesterday, at least 10° more, that’s why lap times were slower than Saturday.”

The FIA TCR World Tour heads to the home race of Hyundai at Inje Speedium in South Korea on October 18-19.
