Silverstone to set the scene for penultimate BTCC rounds

The British Touring Car Championship descends on the Home of British Motor Racing, Silverstone, this weekend for what promises to be a thrilling penultimate event of the 2025 season.

With six races remaining and a maximum of 134 points left on offer, the battle for the coveted crown has developed into a captivating two-horse race between 2022 title winner Tom Ingram and four-time champion Ash Sutton.

Undoubtedly the class of the field this season, the pair have enjoyed remarkable campaigns however it has been Ingram that has kicked on in recent rounds and he therefore heads to Silverstone holding a 32-point cushion at the top of the standings.

For Sutton, Sunday’s three races around the 1.64-mile National layout is somewhat simple; he needs to outscore Ingram by a significant margin to ensure that he goes into the Brands Hatch season finale firmly within striking distance of his main rival.

Ingram meanwhile – who was twice a winner at Silverstone last year – will undoubtedly be optimistic that he can maintain his advantage around a circuit that has always been well suited to the Hyundai i30 N Fastback.

Behind the leading duo, Dan Cammish occupies third place however he will need to be at his best as breathing down his neck is his Alliance Racing team-mate Dan Rowbottom and reigning champion Jake Hill.

As has been demonstrated on multiple occasions this season though, it isn’t just the top five that will be in the mix for overall honours in Northamptonshire.

The EXCELR8 Motorsport trio of Tom Chilton, Senna Proctor and Adam Morgan will be forces to be reckoned with in their Hyundais while Gordon Shedden, Josh Cook and Aron Taylor-Smith are expected to go well in their Speedworks Motorsport Toyotas.

Elsewhere, just two points separate the top three in the Independent Drivers’ Championship with Mikey Doble, Daniel Lloyd and Chris Smiley poised to go wheel-to-wheel over the course of the Weeknd.

There is very little to separate the top two in the Jack Sears Trophy either with West Surrey Racing team-mates Daryl Deleon and Charles Rainford – both race winners this year – set to renew their battle at the top of the leaderboard.

Qualifying at Silverstone takes place at 15:30 local time/16:25 CEST on Saturday before Sunday sees three races staged; the first at 11:30, followed by race two at 14:40 and race three at 17:10.
