Daryl DeLeon delighted after claiming maiden BTCC pole
Daryl DeLeon has shared his delight after clinching his maiden pole position in the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone.
The West Surrey Racing had finished P1 and P2 in practice and backed up his blistering pace with a sublime performance in qualifying that was affected by wet-dry conditions.
DeLeon comfortably progressed into the Quick Six Shootout and after bolting the wet tyre in the closing moments, he charged to the top of the times to pip Gordon Shedden to pole.
“What a feeling,” said DeLeon. “I’m absolutely over the moon to be on pole position. I got the call to box and I was about to finish my lap so was on the fence about whether I should continue.
“Thankfully I listened to my engineer who has a lot more experience than myself and we headed back onto the track with enough time for two laps. Conditions were challenging but we absolutely went for it and came out on top.
“Looking ahead to tomorrow, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do. I had a good race from pole position at Knockhill so I’ll take experience and see what we can do in Race 1 and the rest of the day.”
