Tom Ingram: “It could have been a lot worse”

Tom Ingram admitted ‘things could have been a lot worse’ after qualifying 14th for the opening British Touring Car Championship contest at Silverstone tomorrow.

The EXCELR8 Motorsport driver arrived at the Home of the British Motor Racing with the least amount of boost available virtue of his lofty position in the standings and it certainly had an impact.

Ingram was unable to progress out of the opening portion of qualifying however the tide quickly turned as his chief title rival, Ash Sutton, could only manage 12th.

“It could have been a lot worse,” said Ingram. “Obviously it was looking really bad with Ash progressing into Q2 but he ultimately was unable to move up any higher and now we’ll be starting just a position or so apart.

“It was a really tough session though because the weather played its part and then around here, you don’t need much for it to go right or wrong – you’re on a real knife edge.

“Overall though it’s worked out ok as we’re pretty much next to Ash. We’re going to be in the thick of it tomorrow though so it will be about playing things smart and taking it one race at a time.”
