Daniel Lloyd claims first win of the season in Silverstone opener
Daniel Lloyd produced a flawless drive to claim his first win of the season in the opening British Touring Car Championship contest at Silverstone.
Becoming the 11th different winner of the campaign, the Yorkshireman rose from fourth to first across the opening few laps to tally a maiden win in the series for Restart Racing.
Daryl DeLeon led the field away from pole position as the lights went out however he came under immediate pressure from Gordon Shedden, who shuffled the BMW driver back to second place on lap two.
Lloyd quickly emerged as the driver to watch though as he quickly dispatched DeLeon and then set after the Speedworks Toyota of Shedden, wrestling the lead away from the Scotsman through the Brooklands-Luffield complex of corners.
Reigning champion Jake Hill also took advantage of the wheel-to-wheel battles at the front to elevate himself into second however he could ultimately do nothing to catch and pass the rapid Lloyd.
Lloyd’s charge to the chequered flag was ultimately aided in the final laps as the race finished under the safety car after Nicolas Hamilton’s Cupra caught fire on the back straight.
Shedden therefore completed the podium in third ahead of Senna Proctor and Josh Cook, who are poised to be among the favourites to be in contention for honours in race two as they get free choice of what tyre compound they can run.
Aiden Moffat was sixth ahead of title combatants Tom Ingram and Ash Sutton, who rose up the order to finish seventh and eighth respectively. Rounding out the top ten were the team-mates of Ingram and Sutton, Dan Rowbottom and Adam Morgan.
