Jason Plato outlines commitment to running new BTCC team in 2026
Jason Plato has announced that he intends to be a part of a new team that will enter the British Touring Car Championship in 2026.
Confirming the news in a media scrum at Silverstone, the former double champion stated his intentions to return to the UK’s premier motorsport series next year in a team owner capacity.
Details regarding the confirmation of TOCA BTCC Licences, the car that will be run, drivers and commercial partners are expected to be announce in due course.
“I can’t tell you a great deal but I can say that I’ll be back in the paddock next year as an owner of a new team and we’ll be running two cars,” said Plato.
“As it stands things like the manufacturer of the car, the name of the drivers, our team personnel and commercials partners are not being announced however we hope to start sharing details in the weeks following Brands Hatch.
“For me, being a team owner wasn’t originally an ambition of mine however since retiring at the end of 2022 I have struggled a lot with my mental health. I’ve come back from that though and I feel like I’ve got my mojo back.”
In terms of Plato’s role within the new team, he continued: “Everything will sit under me, I won’t be involved in the day-to-day running of things however I’ll do what I do best and that is work on the commercial side of things, bringing in the money.
“We’re doing things properly though. From the floor up we will have the best people in the business and will have proper brands involved. We’re not messing about!”
