Tom Ingram extends points lead with race two Silverstone win

Tom Ingram stretched his advantage at the top of the British Touring Car Championship standings to 38 points after claiming his sixth win of the season in race two at Silverstone.

Starting from seventh on the grid, the EXCELR8 Motorsport driver delivered a sublime drive as he utilised the soft compound tyre to triumph ahead of his main title rival Ash Sutton and reigning champion Jake Hill.

Ingram had climbed to third place by the end of the opening lap and continued his charge as he firstly dispatched pole sitter Daniel Lloyd before then moving past Hill down the Wellington Straight.

The 2022 title winner quickly worked to establish a gap however his work would soon be undone as the safety car was brought out to recover the stricken Hyundai of Tom Chilton following contact with a West Surrey Racing BMW at Luffield.

On the restart, Ingram romped away from the chasing pack to comfortably triumph whilst Sutton made a decisive move down the inside of Brooklands to snare second place from Hill – who would eventually complete the podium.

Dan Rowbottom had looked on course to finish fourth however a late engine failure for the Alliance Racing driver forced him into retirement. That opened the door for Aron Taylor-Smith, who secured a season-best finish of fourth.

Taylor-Smith had been in the thick of an almighty battle between a number of cars but managed to emerge unscathed, as did the BMW 330i M Sport of Charles Rainford who finished in fifth.

Behind, pole sitter and race one winner Lloyd recovered to finish sixth ahead of Gordon Shedden, Josh Cook and Daryl DeLeon.

Following the reverse grid draw, Sam Osborne will start the day’s final contest from pole position.
