Ruben Volt disqualified from Barcelona finale; Brickley remains champion
Ruben Volt has been disqualified from the final TCR Europe Series race of the season after the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) of his ALM Motorsport Honda Civic Type-R’s was found to be in breach of the technical regulations.
The Estonian driver finished second on the road, having won Friday’s opener, but was thrown out after the stewards inspected the ECU following Saturday’s finale.
It deemed that, while the ECU had been used in the standing start procedure of the race – i.e when the lights went out – it had not given Volt a ‘performance advantage’.
Volt’s car was subsequently disqualified for being in breach of Article 3.8 of the TCR Europe Series technical regulations, and the restriction of driver aids.
The decision moves Teddy Clairet (Team Clairet Sport Audi) up to second in the final results, with Jenson Brickley (Monlau Motorsport Cupra) to third.
Brickley had earlier provisionally wrapped up the title by a solitary point, and remains the champion on countback after he and Clairet finished the season tied on 208 points.
The British driver clinched the title courtesy of a superior number of second place finishes.
Jimmy Clairet ended the season third in the standings, with 195 points, three points ahead of Brickley’s team-mate Eric Gené, with Marco Butti rounding out the top five with 172 points.
