Dan Cammish produces late charge to top opening Brands Hatch GP practice

Dan Cammish kicked off the British Touring Car Championship finale weekend at Brands Hatch GP by setting the fastest time in opening practice.

The Alliance Racing driver moved to the top of the times in the closing stages of a busy first session to claim the early bragging rights around the 2.43-mile circuit.

Despite having to contend with challenging track conditions and high winds, the Yorkshireman bolted on the Goodyear soft tyre to his Ford Focus ST and set a best time of 1:30.510s as the clock ticked down to zero.

West Surrey Racing’s Daryl DeLeon left it even later to improve as he surged up to second in the final seconds whilst his BMW stablemate and Jack Sears Trophy title protagonist, Charles Rainford, completed the top-three.

Four-time champion Ash Sutton was the best placed of the title contenders as he punched in the fourth fastest time, narrowly ahead of his team-mate Dan Rowbottom.

Triple champion Gordon Shedden was the lead Speedworks Motorsport Toyota in sixth while outgoing champion Jake Hill – on his final BTCC outing – hustled his rear-wheel-drive BMW to seventh.

Completing the top ten were a trio of Hyundais in the shape of Adam Morgan, Tom Chilton and Senna Proctor.

Championship leader Tom Ingram spent much of the session having not set a competitive lap time but after scrubbing in tyres and bedding in brakes, he ultimately moved up to 13th.

The final Free Practice session of the season is scheduled to get underway at 12:05.
