Tom Ingram hails ‘phenomenal feeling’ after becoming two-time BTCC champion

Tom Ingram was left overcome with emotion after clinching the British Touring Car Championship title for the second time in his career.

In what has been a record-breaking season for the EXCELR8 Motorsport driver, Ingram wrote his name into the history books with a sublime performance at Brands Hatch as he extended his advantage in race one before then winning race two, which secured him the crown.

After finishing as runner-up in each of the past two seasons, the Hyundai i30 N driver has been arguably in a league of his own this year with two pole positions, seven wins and a further 11 podiums providing the backbone to his title charge.

Such has been Ingram’s dominance, the 32-year-old achieved the highest-ever points tally in the modern era of the UK’s premier motorsport series.

“To be standing here as a two-time BTCC champion is a phenomenal feeling,” said Ingram. “If I’m honest, I don’t think the enormity of what we have achieved will fully set in yet for a little while – it’s just incredible.

“The work we have done this year as a team has been outrageous. As soon as the 2024 season ended we headed off to Anglesey and began working through a methodical plan to improve and elevate the entire package.

“Every single weekend the car has felt utterly incredible, most of the time it has been on another planet. To have had the opportunity to win one BTCC title was special but to have now done it for a second time, it’s marvellous. You never know if you’ll ever get another shot at it.

“This is a very different feeling to 2022 because back then I went into the weekend with no pressure as I was third in the standings initially. This weekend I have felt a little bit of pressure though because everyone has been waiting for me to drop the ball.

“As I’ve said though the car was once again phenomenal and to get it done in race two, with one race to go, was great. This has been the best year’s racing of my life and it’s ended in the best way possible.”
