Chaz Mostert makes it a Gold Coast double
Chaz Mostert made it two out of two from the Supercars Championship race weekend at the Gold Coast, winning today’s 250km race from third on the grid.
Thomas Randle got the jump on pole sitter Broc Feeney at the start, but the Triple Eight driver was able to get back in front by the first chicane.
The race was mostly uneventful and Mostert was able to get into the lead by the time of the second pit stops, emerging ahead of Feeney who suffered from a slow pit stop.
There was just one safety car session during the race and it came when Anton De Pasquale but James Courtney into the wall and out of the race.
De Pasquale was handed a 15-second penalty which dropped him down to 16th place.
The field was released again with just four laps left and Walkinhsaw Andretti United driver Mostert had to defend hard from Feeney.
The two came together on the penultimate lap, but the order remained unchanged when the chequered flag dropped as Mostert won the race by just six tenths of a second ahead of Feeney.
Andre Heimgartner took the final podium spot ahead of Payne, Cameron Waters and Kai Allen.
Feeney keeps the drivers’ championship lead o 3313 points while Payne is second on 3216 and Mostert is third on 3207.
Next up is the penultimate round of the season at Sandown on November 14-16.
