23-car FIA TCR World Tour field heads for decisive penultimate round in China

The 2025 FIA TCR World Tour season heads into a deceive stage as the penultimate round awaits at Zhuzhou in China this weekend, featuring a field of 23 cars together with TCR Asia.

Nine drivers are still in mathematical contention for the 2025 title with 180 points left to fight for from the remaining two race weekends in China and Macau.

But the real title fight stands between two Lynk & Co Cyan Racing drivers and one GOAT Racing driver in the form of points leader Yann Ehrlacher, his team-mate Thed Björk and Honda driver Esteban Guerrieri.

Björk scored the most points in the previous round in South Korea and gained eleven points on Ehrlacher, despite that he let his French team-mate past in the second race, for a points gap of 42 points heading into this weekend.

Guerrieri dropped down from second to third place overall after South Korea, losing nine points on Ehrlacher and 20 points on Björk and the key question is if the Honda driver can relaunch his title aspirations this weekend as the window of opportunity is rapidly closing.

The results in he previous round means that Björk will carry maximum compensation weight of 40kg this weekend while Ehrlacher and Guerrieri will carry 30kg.

Reigning Supercars Championship champion Will Brown takes over the HMO Customer Racing Hyundai from TCR Australia champion Josh Buchan this weekend.

And judging by his last performance in the joint TCR World Tour and TCR Australia round of 2023 at Sydney Motorsport Park where he claimed two wins, the Hyundai driver will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.

13 local entries as well as TCR Australia and TCR Asia entries will join the grid this weekend for a total of 23 cars.

The Z.Speed N team will field two Hyundai Elantra N TCRs for Jiang Nan and Yang Hao while Hong Kong driver Victor Chan Chun Leung will drive a Honda for Norris Racing.

TCR Asia title contender Sean Chiang Chen Shang will be joined by Wang Yi Min in a second Audi at Revx Racing.

The penultimate round of 2025 starts on Friday with practice, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday.

While the weekend was originally scheduled to feature two races, a third has been added due to the revised race weekend schedule in Australia earlier this year which was due to shipping delays.

Sunday will feature Race 2 and 3 at 12:00 and 16:40 local time respectively.
