Norbert Michelisz: “We want to win the Macau Guia race”
Norbert Michelisz topped the second free practice in a strong day for Hyundai at the Guia circuit in Macau, with the Hungarian driver eying a victory to finish a tough 2025 FIA TCR World Tour season.
“The day was good for us. The car felt good, from the first moment the car balance was in the window,” Michelisz told TouringCarTimes.
The BRC Hyundai N team followed a different strategy compared to their rivals, mounting new tyres to extract more performance from the cars early on.
“I think the lap times are misguiding, because we were running new tyres,” the Hungarian said.
“We decided to put them earlier, and I also think the others were affected by these double yellows in the last ten minutes, so I don’t think the results were conclusive for tomorrow.
“Nevertheless, it’s always a good feeling to have a good car and the confidence to push in Macau.
“Whether our pace is enough to stay in the position we have, I’m not sure, but I don’t want to focus on this, the important thing is to have a good rhythm here, to have a good car and I think we have managed to get that here.”
The key session in Macau is qualifying and Michelisz believes they are on course for a good result.
“We have a good pace, but the important session, which is the qualifying, is ahead of us,” he explained.
“The important thing is to have a good car, find a bit more balance on new tyres and to hope for the best.”
It hasn’t been an easy year for the Hyundai team, with Michelisz placed sixth overall as their top driver.
“We needed this kind of momentum, because the last few events were not good for us, so it’s important to finish the season with a good result,” Michelisz said.
“The season has gone so fast, I can’t believe we are at the end already.
“I’m a bit sad that I’m not in a position like in the past to come to Macau with a chance to fight for the championship. Nevertheless, the target is to win the Macau Guia race, so the attitude doesn’t change from last year.”
