Broc Feeney wins second Sandown race as final four set

Broc Feeney moved back to the top of the Supercars standings with victory in the second race of the weekend at Sandown as the four drivers who will now battle for the title in the Adelaide finale were confirmed.

Feeney slipped to second in the points behind Chaz Mostert on Saturday when the WAU driver scored a third successive win, but reclaimed his spot at the top having earlier bagged pole for the 16th time this season to equal the record set by Scott McLaughlin.

The race would run in mixed conditions having started in the dry before drivers were forced to make the switch to wet tyres when rain started to fall – before the circuit then dried again.

Feeney led at the start but was overhauled by Anto De Pasquale early on before the arrival of the rain saw the field forced to dive in to switch to wets.

A moment for De Pasquale then allowed Feeney to move back to the front and the Triple Eight man was able to ease away towards the finish to take the win.

De Pasquale took second with Will Brown in third to secure his spot in the final title reckoning despite once again before forced into a recovery drive from a disappointing performance in qualifying where he was left back in 17th place on the grid after parking his car too early in qualifying.

Brown stormed through the order in impressive fashion, showing strong pace in particular during the wettest of the weater as he fought his way through to the podium to complete and all Chevrolet 1-2-3.

Mostert took fourth spot as the leading Ford driver and will go to Adelaide second to Feeney in the standings, with the top six in the race being rounded out by Brodie Kostecki and Kai Allen.

That sixth place finish was enough to piut the Grove Racing driver into the final four that will battle for the title as team-mate Matt Payne was knocked out alongside Cam Waters and Thomas Randle.

Randle finished the race back in 13th place having dropped back through the order as the race panned out, with Payne and Waters eliminated after they clashed on track in the closing stages.

It forced Waters to pit with a puncture and damaged suspension whilst Payne picked up damaged steering – with both drivers seeing their title hopes ended as a result.

Thanks to the new scoring system, Feeney leads Mostert by 20 points going to Adelaide, with Brown 35 points off top spot and Allen 50 in arrears.
