Brodie Kostecki wins red-flagged first race of Adelaide finale

Brodie Kostecki climbed from fourth on the grid to win the first race of the Supercars Championship season finale on the streets of Adelaide, a race red-flagged due to a heavy crash following very wet conditions.

Points leader Broc Feeney (Chevrolet) started from pole position ahead of title rival Chaz Mostert and only just managed to stay ahead of the Ford driver after the first couple of corners.

But Feeney braked too late at Turn 4 on the third lap, allowing both Mostert and Kostecki past.

The move then enabled DJR driver Kostecki to pass Mostert for the lead a couple of corners later.

After a first part of the race with a somewhat drying racing line, the rain increased again towards the end of the race.

This caught Randle out at the high-speed Turn 8, hitting the wall hard and came to a halt on track.

This brought the safety car out and eventually the red flags due to barrier damage.

Kostecki won the race ahead of Mostert, Ryan Wood and Feeney.

Cameron Waters was fifth while Kai Allen Rounded off the top six.

Mostert’s second place finish has brought him to just 13 points behind Triple Eight driver Feeney ahead of the remaining two 250km races of the Adelaide finale.

Mostert’s team-mate Will Brown was turned around on the first lap of the race and finished tenth, dropping him to 48 points behind in the championship in third place.
