Max Verstappen hints Bathurst appearance

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen has hinted that he would be keen to take part in the iconic Bathurst 1000 race of the Supercars Championship following a recent test.

“I drove it last week, it was a lot of fun. Maybe Bathurst,” said Verstappen.

It has not yet been revealed which Supercar he drove last week, but information suggests it would be the Gen3 Ford Mustang which is used for wind tunnel testing in the USA.

The test drive is likely part of Ford Racing’s promotion activities connected to its cooperation with the Red Bull F1 team where Ford is a “strategic technical partner” for the powertrain development from 2026.

The Dutchman has previously discussed whether he would be able to adapt quickly to the unique character of the Supercars.

“I think after a few practice sessions, it’s fine,” said Verstappen back in 2022.

“You just need a few days of driving. It’s completely different for me. Back at home, I also drive in GT3 cars. I really enjoy it, but you have to adapt your style to it, it takes a few days.

“As a driver, your main skill is to adapt to the situation; it doesn’t matter what car, it’s also grip levels, track layout. What you need from a car, because every track can be a bit different. It doesn’t matter if you’re an F1 driver or V8 driver; you adapt.”
