Mexico axed as 2026 FIA TCR World Tour season opener

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodrígues in Mexico will not host the 2026 FIA TCR World Tour season opener which will instead be moved to a yet to be confirmed venue in Europe.

“We have been taken by surprise, as everything had been already arranged to start the season in Mexico,” said WSC President Marcello Lotti.

“However, we continue our friendly relationship with Gerardo (Mexican promoter) also because last year’s event was one of the highlights of the season and have already agreed to bring the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour back there in 2027.”

The event was scheduled for April 24-26, but due to a request from the event promoter to move the race weekend to June, the Mexico round will instead be postponed to 2027.

“We are obviously disappointed for this change of plans, and we fully understand why at this stage WSC cannot move the event to June,” said Gerardo Rejón, promoter of the event in Mexico.

“We are putting in huge efforts to establish TCR México as one of the main motorsport series in the country and having an event of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour is a crucial part of our strategy, which is why we have agreed to reschedule it next year.”

The replacement venue for the 2026 season opener will be unveiled after the FIA Motor Sport World Council of 26 March.

Information suggests that an Italian venue in early May could take over the spot.
