FIA launches fan survey as work begins on next-generation touring car regulations

The FIA has launched a global fan survey as it begins developing a new technical platform for top-level touring car racing, inviting fans to have their say on the future direction of the category.

The governing body is seeking feedback on the characteristics that should define the next generation of touring cars, including their appearance, performance and the type of racing they produce.

The new regulations are intended to deliver cost-effective and relevant cars that are spectacular to watch, challenging to drive and capable of producing close racing.

“The FIA is seeking the opinions of touring car fans as it begins to consider what the next generation of FIA Touring Cars should look like,” said FIA Touring Car Commission President Alan Gow.

“Their input will help ensure that future cars remain relevant and popular. Most importantly, they must maintain or even increase the close and exciting battles that are the hallmark of great touring car racing, while keeping a strict eye on cost control.”

The initiative comes as the FIA evaluates the future of international touring car racing, which has undergone several major regulatory changes over the past decades, from Super 2000 and TC1 to the current TCR platform.

In addition to technical aspects, the survey will ask fans what makes touring car racing unique and which race formats provide the most exciting competition.

“The future of touring car racing should be shaped not only by officials, manufacturers and teams, but also by the people who fill grandstands, watch broadcasts and follow the sport around the world,” said FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki.

“As the regulator of the sport, the FIA wants to hear directly from those fans. This survey gives them a unique opportunity to help shape the future of this spectacular form of racing.”

The FIA has not yet announced a timeline for the introduction of the new technical regulations.

The survey is open until October 25 and can be accessed at: TCFanSurvey.com
