Roberto Colciago at a loss to understand his level of performance

M1RA’s Roberto Colciago finished both of today’s sessions outside the top ten, finishing as low as 20th in the second free practice. The 2016 TCR Italy champion is having trouble understanding where he is, although he does realise he has some problems with his Honda Civic TCR.

“We had a few issues here in free practice”, admitted the former STCC champion to TouringCarTimes. “To be honest I don’t know the gaps compared to the others as many have used new tyres. Also, I have full success ballast, and this is one of those weight-sensitive tracks where you feel the disadvantage of the extra weight the most.”

When asked to elaborate on where the problem was exactly, Colciago said there is a performance issue, which is emphasised by the old tyres. In this situation, he has no idea where he will end up tomorrow come qualifying.

“It’s difficult to understand, although I can see the problems we have on my car in terms of performance, despite the tyre issues. I don’t think I can make any predictions, to be honest I haven’t really understood where everyone is.”

Having won last year’s TCR Italy championship, the driver from Saronno is glad to see that the grid numbers are increasing.

“Although I will not return to TCR Italy this year, I’m really happy to hear that the numbers are increasing, there will be more cars. It looks like it’s going to be new cars, proper TCRs, and that’s a sign of the championship growing more and more. I wish all of them all the best, I’m sure it’s going to be interesting to watch.”
