Gianni Morbidelli dominates afternoon test session

Gianni Morbidelli confirmed Honda’s strong form today, as the Italian clocked the best lap time of the day, breaking the 2’01 barrier in the process.

The WestCoast Racing driver’s Honda Civic TCR was one second quicker than championship leader Stefano Comini, who came second in his Target Competition SEAT León Racer. Stable-mate Lorenzo Veglia came fourth for Liqui Moly Team Engstler, splitting the two Craft-Bamboo SEATs of Pepe Oriola and Jordi Gené.

Despite signs of margin for improvement, Kevin Gleason went no further than sixth in his WestCoast Racing Honda Civic TCR, whereas BD Racing’s series rookie Antonio D’Amico confirmed his strong form by finishing seventh in his León.

Zsolt Szàbo came home eighth for Zengo Motorsport, just ahead of the third Civic TCR driven by Igor Skuz, with Portimao race winner Michel Nykjaer in tenth.

While Campos Racing managed to send Fernando Monje back out after his driveshaft issues earlier today, Proteam are still working on the Onyx-built Ford Focus, whose gearbox is being looked at, as the car was delivered directly at the track yesterday night.

Action in Monza will resume tomorrow morning at 9.30 for the first Free Practice session.
