Fredrik Larsson claims pole position in Falkenberg for BMW

Fredrik Larsson claimed pole position for the first STCC race at his home circuit Falkenberg for BMW team WestCoast Racing.

Larsson beat the Volvo Polestar Racing duo Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Björk who claimed positions two and three, with just one thousand of a second separating the two.

Richard Göransson claimed position four for Team Tidö, lapping 0.287 seconds slower than his former team mate Larsson, with Kia newcomer Erik Johansson continuing to impress with the fifth fastest time.

The first qualifying session, Q1, saw Ekblom being fastest and securing a vital 25 points to the championship. The result means that the Volvo driver has reduced the gap to team mate and championship leader Björk, who was fourth fastest in Q1, from 25 points to 12 points.

Larsson was second fastest in Q1, just eleven thousands of a second behind Ekblom, with Göransson again third.

Johansson was fifth in Q1, just as in Q2, for Team Kia, with Dacia Dealer Team driver Mattias Andersson rounding off the top six.

Prince Carl Philip Bernadotte will start from pole position in the second race thanks to the reversed grid as he was tenth fastest in Q1.

The Q1 session had one incident as PWR Racing driver Daniel Haglöf spun off track into the barriers and damaged the rear bodywork of his Saab 9-3. Haglöf managed to get back out and was eighth fastest in both sessions.

The first race of the STCC weekend in Falkenberg starts 12:40 CET tomorrow.
