Tiago Monteiro worried about traffic despite being fastest in Macau

Tiago Monteiro is back in Macau after a year away, and already set the fastest lap in the first free practice session. The Portuguese driver in the WestCoast Racing Honda was a full three-tenths of a second quicker than Craft-Bamboo’s Pepe Oriola.

As for his fastest lap in the first session, Monteiro believes it doesn’t mean much as it’s still too early to judge the car and the track.

“It’s nice to be in Macau again!”, said the Honda driver to TouringCarTimes. “As always in this first practice, the track is still very dirty and slow, there is very little grip. The first impression about the car is positive, but it’s still too early to say, and we are still three seconds above the expected lap times.”

However, the Portuguese admits the biggest problem is traffic, with some 35 cars out on track at the same time: “So far, the biggest problem is traffic and the number of cars and drivers on the track that are much slower. This is going to be an issue.”
