James Nash concerned over lack of pace in Georgia

James Nash has said he’s concerned about the lack of pace he and the team have had this weekend in Georgia, but hopes the problems won’t reoccur next time out in Bahrain, as the 2016 runner-up finds himself leaving the weekend ninth in the standings.

Nash qualified in 11th and tackled the day’s two races as damage limitation. With the handling issues with the new SEAT León TCR continuing, Nash found himself languishing down in 13th at the end of Race 1, but was able to make more out of the drier conditions in Race 2 and finished fifth, having a race-long battle with the Alfa of Dusan Borkovic, the Volkswagen of Gianni Morbidelli and the Honda of Roberto Colciago.

“We’ve been struggling as a team all weekend, which is a bit worrying going to the next event, but we know the next round and have some data from there,” said Nash to TouringCarTimes.

“In Race 2, I had the normal set-up issues, but I really enjoyed it. Overtaking people like Gianni and racing with Colciago was a bit on the edge, but they’re fun people to race with, but Dusan is a bit impossible, if you don’t take him off he’ll take you off.”

Nash passed Borkovic for what was at the time fifth at the end of lap ten, but then was forced to take avoiding action when M1RA’s Roberto Colciago locked up whilst diving down the inside of both of them, losing the spot.

“(I got past him briefly), but then Colciago messed it up for me,” said Nash “I only just caught Colciago in my mirrors as he was coming down the inside and only just managed to get out of it; that could have been the end of my race but I’m glad it wasn’t.”
