Benjamin Lessennes sure he could have won without contact

Benjamin Lessennes was in second after a good start in Race 2 at Spa-Francorchamps. The local driver made contact with WRT’s Rob Huff while challenging him for the lead, which relegated him down to fifth.

Lessennes believes he could have won the race had he managed to overtake the former World Champion.

“It was a very good race and I could have challenged for the win”, said the Honda driver to TouringCarTimes. “Had I gone past Huff I think I could have opened a gap, I’ve been fast all weekend and it would have been quite easy to take the win home.”

Lessennes is not entirely sure whose fault it was, but he feels he should have done things differently and Huff is not to blame for the incident.

“I had a good start and went up to second quite quickly, but after that I had that contact with Huff. I still have to check the video but I had a contact with him, my feeling was it is my fault. That’s racing unfortunately, sometimes it just happens.”

After the touch the car was damaged and the Boutsen-Ginion driver was not able to fight back.

“I had a problem with the front splitter and that caused a lot of understeer, so I wasn’t able to challenge the others and I just took the car home.”
