Björk won at Falkenberg
Thed Björk won his second race of the year and extended his lead in the championship today at Falkenberg. Dahlgren took second place, a fighting Huisman third with Jan Nilsson fourth and Storckenfeldt fifth.
Dahlgren who had pole position kept the lead after the first corner. All cars managed to get through the first corner despite being bumper to bumper. Four cars broke loose from the remaining field, Dahlgren, Björk, Ekblom, Göransson and Flash. Björk worked hard to stress Dahlgren and was along side him a couple of times coming in to the first corner.
But Dahlgren managed to keep the lead until the pitstops. Björk was the first to pit, and when Dahlgren came back out on the track Björk soared past in to the lead.
“I thought I was going to keep the lead after the pitstop. But I got in to traffic and Björk was a bit faster,” Dahlgren said.
Behind the top four the fight was equally hard. Huisman and Engström had a hard fight. As Huisman challenged Engström the both got along side each other coming in to the first corner. No one wanted to give way and they touched lightly and both continued, with Engström still ahead. But not long from this incident Engström slowed down and was forced in to the pits due to a puncture, most likely caused by the touch.
Another scrap which culminated in the first corner was between Kristoffersson and Rosenblad. Rosenblad locked up going in to the corner, going for the inside. The two collided and Rosenblad spun while Kristoffersson could continue. The BMW-driver had to wait for the other cars to pass before getting back.
Göransson in fourth position was pushing Ekblom hard. The both pitted at the same time, producing a thrilling race between the two pitstop teams. But it was all to nothing for Ekblom as his gearbox seemed to break after the stop. The Audi-man retired moments later.
As the dust settled and 50 laps were driven, Thed Björk stood as winner and extended his championship lead.
“This is incredible! Its so nice to see our tactics work, we passed Dahlgren in the pits and drove without any mistakes. Just as planned! I’m comfortably in the lead now which is very nice,” a very happy Björk said after the race.
Despite having pole position, Volvo driver Robert Dahlgren had no chance and finished three seconds behind.
“I thought I had it, but Björk was faster after the pitstop. But second place is great with eight sweet points to the championship,” Dahlgren said.
Part time WTCC-driver Duncan Huisman took third and was pleased after fighting his way up through the field.
“I was a bit disapointed after the qualifying. But we knew we had a good race pace. I must say that the racing was very fair today, nothing like the first races. For me this podium is great and for the whole team,” Huisman concluded at the press conference.
After the race Kristoffersson was excluded as his car didn’t pass the post race inspection.
