Richard Göransson vs. Thed Björk

11-10 in favor of Richard Göransson versus Thed Björk when it comes to fights between them. But Göransson has won with the margin he needs to get to become champion only twice. This Sunday the two championship rivals will meet at Mantorp Park during the final STCC race of 2006.

Richard Göransson won the two previous season finals, 2005 and 2004. On both occasions he became champion. For him to win this year he must win the race, but also have some luck. Björk is leading with nine points and cannot finish higher than eight position if Göransson is to be champion and become legendary with three championship wins in a row. “It feels nice to know that Richard only has won races with a big margin when I suffered from some kind of error with the car or been taken off by a opponent,” Björk said.

The first time the two met was at Knutstorp in 2004 when Göransson won and Björk retired. Last time Björk retired was at Anderstorp when he collided with Storckenfeldt while Göransson won.
“That can happen again,” Göransson said with a smile.

The statistics are in favor of Göransson. He has four victories this year – Björk three. Göransson has got eleven finishes that are better than Björk. Göransson won the two last final races at Mantorp. Last time at Mantorp Göransson won and Björk finished only seventh.

Despite this things look grim for Göransson. The question to Björk is obvious – is it over?
“Absolutely not. I am not going to be a spectator during the final. Göransson can very likely win, my tactic is to focus on the qualifying and drive safe in the race,” Björk said.

Göransson also have a clear tactic.
“There is no other scenario. I can’t care less if I finish second or third, on sunday I’m going for a win and nothing less,” Göransson said.
