No Falkenberg next STCC season

The organisers of the track Falkenberg has decided to say no to host a round of the Swedish Touring Car Championship next season. Recently the organisers of Mantorp and Gelleråsen signed long term deals with STCC. The reason for Falkenberg not wanting to host STCC is economical.

“The total cost for the STCC round was around 70.000 euro. For STCC to drive next season there are new demands that increases the expenses radically. Also STCC demands investments of our facilities at around 50.000 euro,” Börje Blomén said to Sportinformation.

“For sure we want to host a round of STCC, but we must be realistic and not put that ahead of the future existence of the club or the track. We just managed to do the event economically this year, but with a rainy race weekend like we had two years ago, it could jeopardise the entire club’s economy.”

Apart from other tracks, Falkenberg have very strict noise rules. They only have permission to have races and other events on the tracks ten days per season which must cover the expenses.

“We have worked with this dilemma for a long period of time. But we have been forced to say no to the offer from STCC to host a round at Falkenberg with the conditions presented to us,” Blomén said.
