Göransson remains with Flash
Richard Göransson turned down his WTCC-drive offer in favour of continuing in the STCC with Flash Engineering. The team which offered the WTCC-drive was Pro Team from Italy who ran cars for Rangoni and D’Aste.
“I’m aiming to win STCC 2007. My situation today is very good. I’m driving for a professional team, the best I have ever driven for in my career and in a very though championship,” Göransson said.
“I have fought hard to get my dream profession as a racing driver, last year it came true. It was the first year that I got paid to drive a racing car. In Sweden there is some kind of hysteria to go racing abroad, many think that they have succeeded if they go abroad no matter what,” Göransson continued.
Göransson thinks otherwise and chose a paid drive for a STCC top team instead of a mid-field WTCC-team where he could drive for free, but was forced to finance his trips and salary by him self.
“To get money for your own salary just to drive abroad in a series almost equal to STCC compared to get paid and really be in for a title chance, it was a quite easy choice for me. 20 years of hard work must pay off some time,” Göransson said and added:
“What STCC became last season is fantastic. I think we have only seen the start of the future of STCC. If you listen outside the borders of Sweden, STCC is ranked as one of the best championships in the world. It will take a lot for me to break from the situation I am in now. Before I even think of leaving the STCC I am going to write history. I will take my third STCC title this year!”
