Engström wants to run two Hondas
Tomas Engström might expand to a two-car team with two Honda Accord next season. The Honda-driver has been running his own one-car Honda team for several seasons in STCC now but might add a second car next season. Talks have started with Honda and Tomas feels the team needs a second car if they are to challenge for the title.
“As STCC looks now you are very vulnerable if you are a one-car team, he said to STCC.se. We would like to have a second driver who could compete at the top and be a help. If we could make that happen, the plan is to add a second Honda Accord to the team.”
The last couple of seasons hasn’t been a huge success for the team in STCC with several retirements. But the speed has always been there as the second place in ETC at Adria showed and they have also been strong in WTCC. He doesn’t exclude driving more races in Europe.
”There is a bigger interest after the international success, he said to STCC.se. We have nothing done for next year but we have several options to consider and I think it’s looking positive.”
As we have reported previously there has also been rumours that Picko Troberg, currently running a two-car team with older BMW:s, is looking at starting a Hondateam next year. Tomas Engström has run a two-car Honda team earlier, that time with Jens Hellström as the second driver in a Honda Civic.
