First test for Andersson in Thompson’s Alfa

Mattias Andersson completed the first test with the new Alfa Romeo 156 that was driven by James Thompson in WTCC 2007. The test took place in Italy at the track Varano.
“The car feels stable and we have not had any technical problems,” said Andersson to STCC.se.

The test was made using the new eco fuel that all STCC-cars have to use in 2008. The engine has been fine tuned for this by N-Technology.

“They have made some adjustments to the engine, but nothing major. The indications we have got does not show any changes, seems to be no problems,” said Andersson.

The team completed a total of 100 kilometres during the test on Yokohama tyres. In STCC all cars run on Michelin.
“We will test on Michelins when we get back to Sweden. Now we just wanted some references compared to Thompson and his previous runs to have an analysis to my driving style,” continued Andersson.

Compared to his old Alfa Romeo 156 the Swede feels no major differences, despite it being many years between the two cars.
“The engine felt lively and the car had a good turn-in. But it is a pre season test and it usually feels like this then. When you increase the speed it will understeer and it is impossible to get a prefect car. Then it is only about getting it quicker than the opponents and that remains to be seen.”

The team is planning to do further testing in Sweden before the start of the official testing sessions. The first official test takes place at Knutstorp on April 3-4. During those tests the chief engineer from N-Technology will be present in Sweden to assist the team.
