Volvo confirms three more years

Reigning Swedish Touring Car Championship drivers and team champions Polestar Racing have extended their contract with Volvo for another three years.
“This feels incredibly good! Polestar has worked extremely hard during the last years both within motorsport and to develop the co-operation with Volvo,” said team boss Christian Dahl to TouringCarTimes.com.

Last season the team secured the drivers title with Norwegian Tommy Rustad and the team incredibly took all pole positions of the entire 2009 Swedish Touring Car Championship season.

“The results on track are reasons enough to continue the co-operation. But it is the development of Polestar as business partner that is equally much behind our decision to extend the co-operation,” said Volvo Motorsport director Derek Crabb.

While the team is set to continue in the STCC 2010, the future is still open for other series.

“Volvo and Polestar are continuously in contact with STCC, WTCC and BTCC to follow the development of the different championships,” said Dahl.

The team is currently developing the facelifted Volvo C30 for the coming season. But the evaluation work for the successor of the C30 is already under way.

“Currently we are working actively on the new C30 model, but we are also evaluating which the eventual successor could be for the following year,” said Dahl.

Information to TouringCarTimes.com suggests that the new Volvo S60 model is the hottest contender for the team.

“The Volvo S60 is for sure an interesting model to compete with. All car models have stronger and weaker sides, depending on the regulations in the concerned series. Commercially the S60 is of course very hot right now,” said Dahl.
