TouringCarTimes 2010 Awards: STCC

The 2010 TouringCarTimes readers awards for the final season of the Swedish Touring Car Championship, as it joins with the Danish series for 2011 are now out.

Although Richard Göransson took his fourth STCC title last season, it was WTCC bound Robert Dahlgren who was voted the best driver of 2010, with the 31-year old from Skellefteå picking up 36% of the vote.

Göransson was voted the second best driver, just 5% adrift and then there was a large gap back to Mattias Andersson, who had taken a surprise pair of victories in an ageing Alfa Romeo 156, with 2009 champion Tommy Rustad fourth and Jan ‘Flash’ Nilsson fifth.

The Polestar Racing team was voted the top team in 2010, taking a dominant 40% of the vote, with the one car WestCoast Racing team in second place on 21%, 5% ahead of Team Biogas.se with their biogas powered Volkswagen Sciroccos.

BMW squad Flash Engineering was fourth, with MA:GP/IPS Motorsport which ran Andersson’s Alfa and Johan Stureson’s BMW 320si in fifth place with 6%.

Andreas Ebbesson was voted the top independent driver from the Semcon Cup in the 2010 Swedish Touring Car Championship with a strong 58%, with Robin Appelqvist trailing behind with 17% just ahead of Tobias Tegelby.

No surprises in the independent teams points for runners in the Semcon Cup, with Ebbesson’s team also polling a similar 57% with Appelqvist Racing on 18%.

With just Ebbeson and Appleqvist the only newcomers to the 2010 STCC, it was another head to head, and Ebbesson’s debut year with the BMW 320si saw him win best rookie with 74% of the vote.

Finally, the constructor poll saw Volvo with the Polestar Racing built C30 voted the top car with 44% of the vote, with German manufacturers Volkswagen & BMW sharing second place with 21% apiece.

Alfa Romeo featured a worthy fourth on 10%, with Chevrolet’s limited campaign with Viktor Huggare suffering with just 3%, and the independent SEATs of the Mattias Ekström Juniorteam finishing last in the poll.

Tomorrow the next series awards shall be online here on TouringCarTimes, with all series going head to head in the vote next week.
