Rickard Rydell criticizes Volkswagen power
Rickard Rydell has moved up to second in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship. But the first victory is yet to come for the Chevrolet driver, who criticizes the power difference between the normally aspirated cars and the turbo powered Volkswagen Scirocco.
“I had the speed to win the first race, but the Volkswagen is hard to pass as it is a lot quicker in a straight line and slow in the corners,” said Rydell.
The Swede drove a turbo charged diesel SEAT in the WTCC two years ago, but says that the difference in power was less then.
“I am disappointed that I was not able to get past Ekblom. I cannot remember the power difference being that big compared to naturally aspirated engines from when I was racing the diesel SEAT in WTCC,” said Rydell.
Rydell driver finished second in the first race at Mantorp Park and fourth in the second. Rydell says that the team has taken a big step forward in the work with the setup of the Chevrolet Cruze.
“This weekend was great. We were fast in testing, qualifying and both races. My engineer Jonas Jarlmark and the team has found better settings for the races,” said Rydell.
Rydell shares second in the championship with rival Ekblom after three STCC race weekends. Next up is the Gothenburg City Race Arena in four weeks.
“We scored a lot of points this weekend and it feels good to be second in the championship. It is nice to be in a championship that is so tight and it is certainly not easy to win. The only thing missing for me so far is a victory,” said Rydell.
