Rustad aiming to gain points on Ekblom and Rydell
Tommy Rustad dropped to fourth in the championship after the previous STCC round at Karlskoga. For Jyllandsringen, Rustad is aiming to gain points and take advantage of the fight between leading duo Fredrik Ekblom and Rickard Rydell.
“The championship is getting tighter between Ekblom and Rydell, they have to go for it and I hope that I can take advantage of their fight,” said Rustad to TouringCarTimes.
Rustad had pole position for the first race of the year at Jyllandsringen and Volvo Polestar Racing has claimed all pole positions at the track since STCC returned in 2010.
“The car works really well at Jyllandsringen, we have got a strong setup and I enjoy the track. We have got a strong position for this weekend,” said Rustad.
The Norwegian is 40 points behind championship leader Ekblom with three race weekends left of STCC 2011.
“With the margins on our side, a good car and a perfect driver, we can gain points on the leader, that is the goal for the weekend. I am going to fight for victory,” said Rustad.
Rustad is just as at Karlskoga going to be joined by 2009 WTCC champion Gabriele Tarquini this weekend.
