Raft of touring car stars for Goodwood Members’ Meeting
A raft of legendary names in touring car circles will be lining up at Goodwood at the end of the month at the historic circuit’s 72nd Members’ Meeting.
Anthony Reid, Andy Priaulx, Patrick Watts and Emanuele Pirro are among a huge entry list of drivers who will be taking part in the event, held over the weekend of March 29 and 30.
The invitation-only weekend is a continuation of the 71 club meetings held at Goodwood during the 1950s and ’60s for the members of the BARC.
Reid and Pirro were among a team of four ‘house captains’ who took part in the first test session ahead of the meeting on Monday, alongside Jochen Mass and Nicolas Minassian.
The four each took examples of Group One Touring Cars out onto the track. Mass took Simon Diffey’s BMW 2002ti; Pirro piloted John Young’s Ford Capri 3.0S; Minassian drove Kevin Doyle’s Mazda RX7, and Reid – pictured above at the 2012 Goodwood Revival – wrestled with Nigel Garrett’s Chevrolet Camaro Z28.
At the race meeting, these four will be joined by a full grid packed with Rover SD1s, Triumph Dolomites, Minis and Fiestas.
The Group One Touring Cars will be the newest cars that have ever raced at Goodwood and will all run in period liveries. It will also be the first time a corporate livery has ever run on a car racing at Goodwood.
Other familiar names to touring car fans will include Tiff Needell, Darren Turner and Robb Gravett, and other series featuring include Formula One, the World Rally Championship and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
