2015 Super Touring Car Championship calendar released
The HSCC Super Touring Car Championship will once again play a supporting role to the British Touring Car Championship, forming part of the support package at Rockingham’s September round of Britain’s premier racing series.
The Rockingham event will be the final of four rounds for the series in 2015, the same number run in its debut year in 2013, and one fewer than the 2014 season, which saw Honda Accord driver James Dodd win the title in the final race of the year.
While an event has been dropped from the calendar, 2015 will see the Super Tourers take on two new circuits, including Rockingham, a circuit that opened a year after the BTCC Super Touring era ended.
Joining Rockingham will be Donington Park, which will open the season as part of the May Bank Holiday weekend’s Historic event. Although it will be the first competitive trip to Donington for the series, many of the drivers have tested at the Leicestershire Circuit.
Forming the middle two rounds will be a return trip to Brands Hatch, but as part of May’s Masters Historic Festival rather than July’s Historic Superprix, and the season staple of the Silverstone Classic in late July.
One notable absence on the calendar is Oulton Park, a circuit that featured twice in the 2014 calendar, including a support slot at the British Touring Car Championship and the drama-filled season finale at the Gold Cup. Thruxton, which hosted the season opener in both 2013 and 2014, has also been dropped.
