Andrew and Mike Jordan share Austin A40 at Donington Historic Festival
Andrew Jordan was out at the Donington Historic Festival with father Mike as the pair contested the History of the BTCC races in an Austin A40.
The Triple Eight Racing BTCC driver took to the track in the car that both himself and Mike have been working on and competing in at various events on the historic racing calendar, with Andrew stating that it’s good to take to the track knowing there’s no pressure to get a result.
“I haven’t been out in it since October,” said Jordan, speaking to TouringCarTimes after Saturday evening’s race. “Dad’s done one so far this year, but it’s been really good fun. There’s no pressure at all, it’s really good fun.”
With the pressure off, the Jordans took their A40 to the top step in the final race of the weekend, winning the 45 minute race by a clear 30 seconds and a whole minute ahead of the next best Austin.
“It’s nice to come and do racing why we started: because it’s fun driving cars. I love that little car and I love coming to race with my dad.”
The pair are planning to compete at more events throughout the year, with the main event being the Goodwood Revival in September. There is also a second car being built by the two with the aim that it’ll be out at the Silverstone Classic, although Andrew will not be out in it, and is currently looking to find a drive at the July event.
“There’s about three other rounds we can do throughout the year,” Jordan continued. “We’ll be out at Goodwood and something, the two of us. We’re building a Cortina for somewhere later in the year, I think Dad’ll be out in that with a customer.
“I don’t think I’ll be out in anything at the Classic, but I’d love to be in one of Nick Swifts Minis and I’ve been speaking to him about that. I’d also love to have a go in a Super Tourer. I’ve not been offered a go in one but I’d definitely love to, they’re iconic touring cars. I might go and put my business cars around a bit!”
