Super Touring grid redrawn based on previous performances

Stewart Whyte and Patrick Watts will share the front row of the redrawn grid in the first Super Touring race at the Silverstone Classic following a problem-filled qualifying session.

Poor weather meant that qualifying was contested entirely behind the safety car, meaning no-one could set a competitive time. As a result, the organisers have redrawn the grid “based on previous performance”.

Stewart Whyte, who has won three of four races this season, will start on pole position, while Patrick Watts, who took victory at Donington Park, will line up second. The second row will be made up of reigning champion James Dodd and two-time BTCC champion John Cleland.

Neil Smith, who has historically gone well at Silverstone, will line up in fifth, with Graeme Dodd joining him on the sixth row, ahead of Keith Butcher and the Pearson brothers on the fourth row. Mark Jones and Craig Davies round out the top ten.

Other notable positions include Frank Wrathall, who took a double victory in a Vauxhall Cavalier in 2013, in 11th, while grid positions 15 to 18, are filled with BMW E30 M3s, the last of which sees Tim Harvey take to the wheel, setting up a mouth watering spectacle for BMW fans.

Adam Morgan will line up in 21st in the BMW he shares with Darren Fielding, before swapping to a Mazda 323 for Sunday’s race, which will start Saturday’s race in 30th.

Finally, Steve Soper will start from 26th in the Rover SD1 Vitesse.
