Ash Sutton delighted with second row start
Ash Sutton declared himself delighted with a second row start at Rockingham after the Subaru driver qualified fourth on the grid for the eighth round of the campaign.
Despite the 66kg of ballast onboard his Levorg GT, Sutton qualified just a tenth of a second away from pole, and ahead of his main rivals for the championship title.
That was despite the reigning Jack Sears Trophy winner revealing that he had been struggling with the balance of his car throughout the day, with the BMR-run team set to work on improvements ahead of race day.
“I’m very happy with P4, especially as the main guys in the championship fight are all behind me,” he said. “It’s also good because we’ve struggled with the balance of the car today and haven’t managed to get the car in the sweet spot.
“I’d say we’ve only been 70% there with it today, although we did make a big improvement from FP2 into qualifying. I’m not saying that we’d find loads of time if we got the balance right, but what it would do would make the car more consistent and easier to drive.
“It’s the first time since Donington Park that I’ve not felt at one with the car and we haven’t had it in that sweet spot. I really had to pull the lap out of the bag, but I’m confident that the boys will have it sorted for tomorrow.”
