Andreas Wernersson returns with the Lestrup Racing Team for 2018

23-year-old Andreas Wernersson will be back for the 2018 Scandinavian Touring Car Championship season, racing a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for the full season with the Lestrup Racing Team, after making a one-off appearance for the team last season at the season finale at Mantorp Park.

Wernersson made a strong impression when he raced for the team at Mantorp Park, finishing in second position behind championship contender Fredrik Ekblom in his first race, finishing sixth and fourth in races two and three.

The 2012-13 Swedish Clio Cup champion will be back full time in the STCC for the first time since 2014, where he was a race winner with Brovallen Design in their Kia Optima STCC at Solvalla.

“Of course, I’m driving to win and with this team, I think it’s a realistic goal,” said Wernersson.

The Swede will drive for former DTC champion Fredrik Lestrup’s team, who expands to a two-car entry for its second season of racing in the STCC.

“Fredrik is probably the team manager at STCC who works hardest, and he has the heart for racing in the right place,” he added. “The team was very good already and nice to work with both on and off the track. I have seen they have further developed since then so this was an obvious choice.

“I want to win and fight for the victories and the championship. Obviously, it is tough, but it is a goal we must dare to have. Even though we’ll be racing with many talented and experienced teams and drivers, it’s not an impossible goal.”

Wernersson joins the already confirmed Oliver Söderström at the team.
