WestCoast Racing lodge entry for TCR UK opener

WestCoast Racing has confirmed that it will join the TCR UK Series grid for the opening meeting of the season at Silverstone.

The Swedish outfit, which secured 14 wins in the TCR International Series, will become the second overseas outfit to compete in the first event of the year, with the LMS Racing squad having confirmed a single-car entry for Olli Kangas earlier this week.

Swedish siblings Jessica and Andreas Bäckman will drive WestCoast’s Volkswagen Golf GTI cars as the pair make their debuts in TCR competition.

The pair have both enjoyed success in karting and raced against each other in the RX2 class of the World Rallycross Championship last year.

“We’re really pleased to be able to confirm our TCR UK entry with two cars for Andreas and Jessica,” team manager James Nixon said. “We’ve already completed one test in Zandvoort and, although you can never read too much into testing at this time of year, we’re more than happy with our pace after only one test.

“This year is a very big learning year for both Jessica and Andreas but throughout the Zandvoort test it was a pleasure to see two young drivers hungry for success.”
