Sport77 adds Alex Jones for part programme

The newly-formed Sport77 team has confirmed the addition of a second car for a partial programme in the TCR UK Championship.

The Honda squad will field a car for series debutant Alex Jones in the second half of the season, with a testing programme in place for the opening part of the year as he takes up a development driver role.

The team has also secured Go-Fix as title sponsor, with the team set to compete under the Go-Fix Honda by Sport77 name.

“I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Honda Civic TCR, this opportunity to drive a front-wheel drive touring car in anger and to get to grips with these amazing cars,” Jones said. “Having seen them in action, I knew I wanted to get on the TCR UK grid and be involved.

“Part of my programme with the team also involves racing in the second half of the season. Having seen how TCR UK has grown in recent seasons, I know that the Goodyear Diamond Trophy is a competitive part of the championship, so I want to be prepared to go out there and give it my best on my debut.”

Team boss Will Powell said he was pleased to confirm the new deals ahead of the 2024 season.

“It’s great to welcome Alex Jones and Go-Fix to Sport77 and JAS Motorsport and I’m looking forward to competing alongside him in TCR UK,” he said. “His business Go-Fix Mechanical and Drainage Services continues to go from strength to strength, with a large fleet of vehicles servicing London and the South East.

“It’s understandable that with limited time available, Alex wants to complete a thorough testing programme before getting behind the wheel to fight for the Goodyear Diamond Trophy in the second half of the season.”
